How to Choose the Correct Weights:

1- Why Do I Need Weights.

ASSURANCE! – Until recently the need for, and the use of calibration test weights seemed rather unimportant. With the integration of ISO-9000 and similar quality assurance programs, came a growing concern for the verification of the performance of weighing devices. Weighing devices should be checked each day they are used. Doing so, provides credibility to you, your customers and the auditors.

2- How Many Weights DO I Need

ENOUGH TO DO THE JOB – While opinions may vary, it is highly recommended that you have sufficient weights to test the weighing device to capacity, with preferably 3,4 or 5 weights. For example: a Mettler, PM-4000, with a 4000 gram capacity, should be tested

With the Heusser Newweigh set WS-14. This set contains four 1 kilo weights. By placing the weights, one at a time, on the pan, the user is testing total span as well as linearity. When you specify the model of balance, Heusser Neweigh insures that each weight set also provides you the correct combination of weights to perform c calibration of the balance when necessary.

3- What Type and Class Do I Need

IT DEPENDS – Analytical balances require one type and class, most top loading balances another. You are assured the proper weights for your weighing devices, when ordering from Heusser Neweigh. For example, while more technical information is available in Heusser Neweigh’s metrology information bulletin, analytical balances normally require Type1, Class1 weights. On the other hand, for top loading balances, normally Type II weights adjusted to Class 1 tolerances are recommended.

Be Careful! Less expensive and lower class weights such as Class F may not be adequate when considering the accumulative error of each weight as they are placed on the weighing device.  Heusser Neweigh will gladly assist you in choosing the correct weights based on the types of weighing devices used, the quality assurance criteria and the type of weighing being performed.

4- How Do I Care for and Re-certify my Weights.

VERY EASILY – Caring for and cleaning you weights is usually accomplished by keeping them stored in their weight box and, as necessary wiping them with a clean cloth when foreign matter is present. While weighing devices are usually cleaned and calibrated semi-annually, weights are normally re-certified annually. Heusser Neweigh performs this service regardless of the age, make or denomination  of your weights. Our 72 hour turn-around provides a minimum time of absence and our NIST traceable certification will insure accuracy and credibility.
